Hey there, fellow romance readers!
Let me tell you about my latest read, Out On a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young. This book caught my attention with its unique premise, and let me just say—it did not disappoint. I couldn’t stop laughing, crying, and smiling my way through this story. At one point, I laughed out loud so hard that my fiancé looked at me like I had officially lost it. But you know what? That’s the mark of a great book, right?
The story starts with a Halloween party where Winnifred “Win” McNulty meets Bo in the most adorable meet-cute you could imagine. Picture this: both of them show up dressed as pirates (because of course they do—she has a hook hand, and he has a wooden leg). Right from the beginning, the banter between these two is absolute perfection. It’s witty, sharp, and so natural that you’re immediately rooting for them. I found myself grinning like an idiot at their dialogue, wishing I could be as quick on my feet as Win.
Meet Win and Bo
Win is such a fantastic character. She’s independent, witty, and confident in who she is. Living with a limb difference hasn’t stopped her from taking on life with humor and grace, and she’s the kind of character you want to cheer for from page one. Then there’s Bo—sweet, supportive Bo. After losing his leg to an amputation, he’s the type of person who turns his challenges into strengths. Together, they’re magnetic, and watching their relationship grow is such a treat.
One of the things I loved most about this book is how it handles some heavier themes with care and respect. Win and Bo’s disabilities are part of who they are, but they’re not defined by them. Their shared experiences bring them closer together, but what really shines is how they treat each other as equals. There’s so much mutual respect and understanding in their dynamic, and it’s such a refreshing take on romance. You can feel the chemistry between them in every interaction, from the lighthearted teasing to the deeper conversations that tug at your heart.
Oh, and let’s talk about the humor for a second because it’s seriously top-notch. I wasn’t kidding when I said I laughed out loud multiple times. I’m a sucker for good banter, and this book delivers in spades. It’s the kind of humor that sneaks up on you, catching you off guard in the best way.
But it’s not all laughs. This book has a ton of heart, too. When Win finds out she’s pregnant after their one-night stand, the story takes a turn toward something deeper. Watching Bo step up to be there for her, even as they navigate their new and unexpected connection, is so moving. Their journey from strangers to friends to something more is paced beautifully. You can feel every awkward moment, every tender gesture, and every spark of chemistry as their relationship unfolds. It’s not rushed or forced; it feels so real and natural.
By the time I reached the last page, I didn’t want to say goodbye to these characters. Win and Bo feel like old friends, the kind you want to keep checking in on to see how they’re doing. This is one of those books that reminds you why you fell in love with romance in the first place. It’s about love, yes, but it’s also about finding strength in vulnerability, accepting help when you need it, and letting people in even when it’s scary.
Are you going to give it a read?
If you’re in the mood for a romance that’s equal parts funny, heartfelt, and downright swoon-worthy, I can’t recommend Out On a Limb enough. It’s the kind of book that stays with you, and I’m already itching to reread it. And hey, if you’ve already read it, let’s talk about it! I’d love to hear what you thought about Win and Bo’s story.
